Richard J. Leite
Aspiring Interior Designer
Hi there! I'm Richard Leite, an interior design student in my third year at the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID). I’m originally from Brazil but now living in New York City, soaking up all the amazing design inspiration this city has to offer.
I started with an associate degree in fine arts, which gave me a great base for my creative work. Now, I’m working towards my Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) at NYSID. My background and love for art help me bring fresh and fun ideas to my designs.
Here are some of my work, ideas, and designs that reflect how I approach my projects. I hope you enjoy getting to know my style and vision!
Selected Work
The Green Haven
March, 2025
I designed this headquarters office for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a nonprofit organization. My main focus was to create a flexible workspace featuring modular furniture that can be easily rearranged to accommodate large events. Additionally, I incorporated a variety of smaller seating areas, allowing employees to take breaks and work from different settings. Sustainability was a key priority in this design, utilizing eco-friendly, recyclable materials to minimize environmental impact while maintaining a functional and inviting atmosphere.
The Fire House
December, 2024
I designed this two-level firehouse at 159 East 87th Street in New York City as a vibrant live-work space for visiting artists. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s first studio, the project blends historic charm with modern functionality.
The first floor includes a studio, gallery, café, and workspace, while the second floor features a private apartment. A bold yellow block anchors the design, adding visual interest and defining spaces without sacrificing light. With ADA-compliant features and adaptable layouts, the firehouse is both inspiring and accessible.
The Rose House
November, 2024
I designed The Rose House as a warm and accessible home for a family of four, including a family member who uses a wheelchair. The design prioritizes comfort, harmony, and functionality, blending cozy textures, natural materials, and soft, curvilinear forms to create a soothing environment.
With ADA-compliant features and carefully planned turning points, the layout ensures smooth mobility and accessibility throughout the home. Rounded furniture and gentle ambient lighting enhance the tactile experience, making the space feel safe, inviting, and serene.
