The Rose House
The Rose House
November, 2024
I designed The Rose House as a warm and accessible home for a family of four, including a family member who uses a wheelchair. The design prioritizes comfort, harmony, and functionality, blending cozy textures, natural materials, and soft, curvilinear forms to create a soothing environment.
With ADA-compliant features and carefully planned turning points, the layout ensures smooth mobility and accessibility throughout the home. Rounded furniture and gentle ambient lighting enhance the tactile experience, making the space feel safe, inviting, and serene.
Living Room
This living room reflects the essence of The Rose House, blending warmth, harmony, and a sense of comfort. A calming palette of soft greens, warm woods, and terracotta tones is paired with natural materials and curvilinear forms to create a tranquil and inviting environment. The central fireplace, wrapped in textured tiles and framed by glass, serves as the focal point, offering visual interest and a cozy ambiance.
Rounded furniture and carefully selected textures enhance the tactile and visual experience, fostering a sense of safety and relaxation. The wooden chevron flooring adds character and depth, while the live-edge accent table introduces an organic, natural touch. The floor-to-ceiling curtains soften the space and frame the expansive windows, allowing natural light to flood the room while providing privacy when needed.
Layered lighting, including wall sconces, pendant lights, and a woven floor lamp, creates a soothing atmosphere, ensuring the room feels serene and welcoming throughout the day.
Foyer
Step into the Rose House foyer, where functionality meets warmth in every detail. I designed this entryway by combining soft pink hues with contrasting blue, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. The woven rattan panels on the cabinetry add texture, enhancing the organic feel of the space while providing practical storage.
The custom bench is designed for comfort. Above, a set of wooden hooks and a shelf add both function and a touch of modern decor, perfect for neatly storing essentials. The patterned tile floor introduces a classic touch, harmonizing with the color palette and tying the space together beautifully. This foyer is a perfect blend of style and functionality, setting a welcoming tone for the rest of The Rose House.
Transition Point
When I designed this transition point, I wanted my client to feel an immediate sense of calm. The soft sage green walls and light pink ceiling create a serene atmosphere as soon as you step in. To the left, the social space invites connection, while to the right, the private areas offer a retreat.
Natural light floods through the large window, illuminating the cherry blossom tree outside and casting gentle shadows on the floor. The red marble bench adds a refined touch, perfect for a moment of quiet reflection.
Primary Bedroom
I designed the primary bedroom to be colorful, fun, and inviting. The abundant natural light flooding the space allowed me to paint both the walls and ceiling in the same soothing sage green. The room features cove lighting on the ceiling and matte black wall-mounted nightstand lights for a touch of contrast. For the headboard, I layered materials, colors, and textures to create a striking focal point that enhances the warmth and character of the space.
Mudroom
I wanted to create a welcoming, functional entry space that blends natural textures and muted tones. The wardrobe here has a soft sage green, bringing an earthy warmth touch to the space. I chose rattan for the doors to add a hint of texture and contrast.
The terrazzo flooring is durable and adds a playful mix of colors and speckles, setting the foundation for a lively but refined look. I kept the wall decor minimal yet stylish with framed abstract prints that have hints of green, orange, and blue to harmonize with the palette. The floating console is both practical and space-saving, perfect for placing keys, or small plants. With all the elements combined, this mudroom feels fresh, functional, and ready to welcome you home.
